Welcome to my Nightmare

Hi, I am not much of a blogger, however my recent experience with Lenovo and their poor customer support has prompted me to record my customer support experiences whilst attempting to resolve an BIOS hardware issue.

I have had the misfortune to purchase an Lenovo Z580 last October . Recently I wished to examine the BIOS and discovered that I was unable to enter the BIOS screen. Below is a brief video of Lenovo failing to load the BIOS I filmed prior to sending it into repair. At this time I did not know the nightmare I was about to have.

Today I have been informed by Medion that the fault was due to "..intrusion of liquids. A free repair within the limits of our warranty is therefore not possible". They have quote 91.27 for repair with the estimation of costs making reference to Material Description NBC LV CCYT4G8UK102BlkKeyMidgr. Googling on line has found that the CCYT4G8 part related to a keyboard part. I await an explanation detailing how a faulty BIOS will be fixed by a new keyboard.

  2. This looks similar to an issue that I had recently: http://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/1ccane/no_f_keys_at_cold_boot/

Try "rebooting" from within Windows 8 and then F12 at the boot screen to access the BIOS. This is a Windows 8 bug and not a Lenovo specific one.
