A week is a long time.

Well a week has passed and I am a lot happier. Lenovo have agreed to fix at no cost, and my laptop is now making it way back to me. I await with interest to see whether I can now enter the BIOS.

How did I get to this happy conclusion?

Possible answers may be

  • I shouted loud enough and long enough to be heard by the people who make the decisions.
  • I used the Internet to publicise this issue,  namely this Blog, Lenovo Support Community Forum and also commenting on the Lenovo facebook site.
  • I am on the geek side of the IT spectrum and therefore knew the difference between a BIOS and a keyboard.
Regardless thank you Lenovo.

Lenovo, the recurring Nightmare

Well today didn't fair much better.

Today I have dealt with 4 people in total, finally having a conversation with the Paul the Supervisor after waiting 26 hours.

I had to reiterate to each person firstly that there was no problem with the computer when sent to Lenovo and secondly that the only issue I had was with entering the BIOS.

Chris explained at this time he had not been in contact with the company responsible for the investigation/ repair, the company in question being Medion, furthermore he said he the earliest he would be able to find any information from the would be tomorrow afternoon.

He had no information about the BIOS and whether this had been fixed. This being the sole reason for the initial enquiry. It appears that a great distance exists between Lenovo support and Lenovo Technical.

Below are the photos of the water damage. The question I must ask is do I need to take a laptop apart prior to buying to ensure that I will not be held responsible at a later point.

Welcome to my Nightmare

Hi, I am not much of a blogger, however my recent experience with Lenovo and their poor customer support has prompted me to record my customer support experiences whilst attempting to resolve an BIOS hardware issue.

I have had the misfortune to purchase an Lenovo Z580 last October . Recently I wished to examine the BIOS and discovered that I was unable to enter the BIOS screen. Below is a brief video of Lenovo failing to load the BIOS I filmed prior to sending it into repair. At this time I did not know the nightmare I was about to have.

Today I have been informed by Medion that the fault was due to "..intrusion of liquids. A free repair within the limits of our warranty is therefore not possible". They have quote 91.27 for repair with the estimation of costs making reference to Material Description NBC LV CCYT4G8UK102BlkKeyMidgr. Googling on line has found that the CCYT4G8 part related to a keyboard part. I await an explanation detailing how a faulty BIOS will be fixed by a new keyboard.
