A week is a long time.

Well a week has passed and I am a lot happier. Lenovo have agreed to fix at no cost, and my laptop is now making it way back to me. I await with interest to see whether I can now enter the BIOS.

How did I get to this happy conclusion?

Possible answers may be

  • I shouted loud enough and long enough to be heard by the people who make the decisions.
  • I used the Internet to publicise this issue,  namely this Blog, Lenovo Support Community Forum and also commenting on the Lenovo facebook site.
  • I am on the geek side of the IT spectrum and therefore knew the difference between a BIOS and a keyboard.
Regardless thank you Lenovo.

  1. Did your computer get repaired? Do you have any advice for me - I have the same problem, I can't get into the bios. In fact, my z580 tries to do a network boot and I can't do anything about it, let alone log into the bios to reorder the boot menu.

  2. Morning Bill,

Yes, at the end of the customer support ordeal and their initial attempt to blame water damage, they fixed the BIOS issue at no cost, and the laptop returned good to go. I can now boot into the BIOS happily.

If when you press the charm button the BIOS selection screen pops up; as shown in the you Tube video; but on selection of BIOS it goes start back into Windows then it sounds like the same issue.

My one word of advice would be video everything, video it failing to enter BIOS, video you packing the Laptop, video the state of your laptop, so that you have evidence to post on-line if there is any disagreement on the actual issue.

Good Luck and feel free to link to the blog if anything doesn't go to plan.

  4. Evening Steve.

They did replace the keyboard, after a much a do on the part of Medion and Lenovo. I had to be very insistent on regard to the what the exact issue was, and also stating clearly that if there was an issue with the keyboard it was their issue as the keyboard had been fine prior to the return to base for the BIOS issue.

Good luck with your dealings with Medion.
